Dahlia

Dahlia is a gentle and low-maintenance approximately 1 year old female; she was an owner surrender due to their inability to take care of her and give her proper exercise. She is a typical female velcro dog, loving the attention she receives from her foster human!

Dahlia did live with other dogs and enjoys the company of dogs in general. She greets other dogs nicely and will play, but is still learning how to 'dog' sometimes... she may not have had much opportunity to act like a puppy prior to going to her foster's. She would do best with a neutered, confident male dog, or can be a nice solo dog. We have not observed her interactions with cats, so we don't know how she would be in a cat-friendly home.

She is people-friendly and eager to please, however she does lack confidence in certain situations so she will need a strong handler/leader who will guide her and continue to bond, train, and build her confidence. Dahlia does enjoy walks/hikes and running in the yard, so a fenced in yard would suit her best. She would enjoy a home with dog-savvy older children, but has not lived with small children (though her gentle nature has shown that she should do well). An active family that is willing to provide training would be required for Dahlia's continued success.

Dahlia is now spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. She tested positive for Lymes (unfortunately rather common in NJ) and was treated without issue, she is doing/feeling well and ready to find her forever home.

Ghost

This adorable boy is Ghost. Just like Casper, he's as friendly as can be. Ghost is a 10 month old Shepsky (German Shepherd/Husky cross) who, due to no fault of his own, is looking for a new furever home.
Once Ghost meets you and bonds, he will be your shadow. He has lived with an infant and also a small dog. He is dog friendly but does constantly want to play. He would do well in a home that will give him structured play time, balanced with training time so that he can continue to learn (he's still a big puppy!). He has not been exposed to cats.
Ghost would do well in a home with a spayed female confident dog (or medium/large well-mannered, docile male) that can accept his puppy-like play. He would love a home with dog-savvy kids! Since he is half husky and loves to run/play (the perfect mix of both breeds), he will require a fenced in yard.
If you think Ghost may be a good fit for your family, please apply at gsgsr.org. If you have previously applied, please private message us to let us know your interest, and send us your "AA000-" application confirmation number.

Atlas

Atlas came to GSGSR from a breeding facility, and unfortunately didn't receive much love or positive attention in his lifetime. He is 6 years old (born March 2018) and was used simply as a breeding machine. His health was neglected and, as a result, he needed some serious vetting. With the help of your generous donations, he was neutered, vaccinated, and his tartar-encased teeth have been cleaned. His ear infection has healed up and he's feeling so much better. He has an old injury to his rear knee which has healed, but he limits his weight on that leg while standing still. As a result, xrays show arthritis in that leg.
Atlas' ideal furever home is one that understands his physical limitations and has limited stairs, if any. A fenced in yard would be ideal since he's still learning to potty while on a leash (he never knew what a leash was for 6 years), he's more comfortable walking around the yard! He has no problem playing, interacting with people, and going for walks, so his adopters should continue his socialization. He gets along with friendly female dogs but has not been exposed to cats or young children. He is still decompressing and learning the ways of the world (he was kept inside in a loud kennel for many years) so patience and understanding is key. He would benefit from training and continued exposure/socialization. He is mostly housebroken and loves getting attention from his foster parents. He is content just sitting there being your shadow for hours... And he's learning to play with toys. Atlas prefers the company of women and bonds quickly to a female owner; unfortunately due to his history, he takes much longer to warm up to men.
If you think Atlas would be a good fit for your family, apply at gsgsr.org. If you have previously applied, please private message us to let us know your interest, and send us your "AA000-" application confirmation number.

Lucy Lu

This sweet girl is Lucy Lu. Lucy is a gentle 1 year old female that was luckily found by a wonderful K9 officer when she was tied to a post in a NJ park last month. She was left in the wooded treeline, without a collar, microchip...and without a family. After being nursed back to health by the officer and his family, Lucy is gaining confidence (and weight!) and is learning that there are so many good people (and dogs) in the world.
Lucy Lu likes her humans, but bonds more to her 4-legged foster siblings. She loves to run and play, and is eager to learn. Although shy at first, she comes out of her shell and will be your best friend. Lucy Lu would do well in a home with a fenced in area and other confident dogs for her to play with; she will not be placed in a home with another female shepherd. She has not been around small children but can be slightly mouthy (she's still a pup!) so a home with dog-savvy older children would be ideal. She has not been exposed to cats or small animals. She is now spayed (still recovering from the surgery), microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines.... She is about 60lb.
Since Lucy does lack confidence in certain situations, she will need a strong handler/leader who will guide her and continue to bond, train, and build her confidence. She does enjoy walks/hikes and running in the yard with her doggy foster siblings. An active family that is willing to provide training would be required for Lucy's continued success. (And although she was found by an amazing K9 handler, she is not working dog material 🙂 )
If you think Lucy Lu may be a good fit for your home, please apply at gsgsr.org. If you have previously applied for any other dog(s) and are interested in Lucy, please private message us to let us know your interest, and send us your "AA000-" application confirmation number.
