Application for Adoption

Our Adoption Requirements

All of our German Shepherds are adopted to homes where they will be treated as a pet and companion only.
The adopter must be between the ages of 25 and 70 inclusive.
If you rent, we must have written consent for your landlord that you are permitted to have a German Shepherd.
We require all adopters to attend professional obedience training with their adopted dog, regardless of prior training experience.
Our adoption fees are as follows:

$350for puppies to 1 year old.

$300for a dog from 1 to 6 years old.

$150for a dog 7 years or older.

About Our Dogs

Our dogs come from owner’s who for many reasons need to find a new home for their dog, or from shelters throughout New Jersey
Before entering our program all of our dogs receive a temperament test. All dogs must pass a 15 point test in order to enter our program. We do not adopt dogs with poor temperaments or known bite histories.
All of our dogs are fully vetted, up to date on all of their shots and vaccinations and have spent time either with a foster home or come from an owner’s home.
We provide adopters with all vet records and information on any special care or food requirements.
They will hold a special place in your family.

So What's Next?

Once your application is received by GSGSR, we will send you an email confirmation. Our first step is to perform our vet and personal references. Once this is completed we will contact you by phone for a phone interview and then schedule a home visit. Once all requirements are met and if your application is accepted, you can then set up an appointment to meet one of our dogs.

Please note that an application does not lock you into adopting nor does it guarantee that the adoption will proceed. It just helps us decide which of our available dogs will be right for your family. Our dogs are either in foster homes or still with their current owner, so in order to be respectful of time, we do not schedule a meet and greet with any dog prior to approval.

Before you complete this application to adopt a rescue dog from Garden State German Shepherd Rescue, please make sure that you and your family have carefully considered this decision. Adopting a dog is a meeting of the heart as well as of the mind. It is a lifetime commitment to an animal that will be your loving companion and your best friend.

Some dogs in our program are still with their owners and they may be willing to adopt to the Connecticut, New York, Delaware and southeast and central Pennsylvania area.
